The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi has honoured 15 recipients of Urban Treasures in the initiative's fifth edition. His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, presented the awards during a ceremony held at the Cultural Foundation on Tuesday.

Other recipients are Zubaid Tailoring & Embroidery Exhibition, Ghandoor Cafeteria and Pastry, Al Bahri Dental & Orthodontic Center, Cafeteria Hussam, and Abid Trading Stores. The list also features Syria Cafeteria, Al Qusoor Tailoring & Garments, Sea Shell Refreshments, ADCOOP, and Top Man Gents Garments.
Celebrating Modern Heritage
This programme is part of DCT Abu Dhabi's ongoing efforts to protect, preserve, and promote the emirate's modern heritage. The initiative was launched to recognise landmark homegrown businesses—such as restaurants, bakeries, tailors, and pharmacies—that have thrived in Abu Dhabi for 20 years or more.
The Urban Treasures initiative reflects our commitment to recognising the businesses that have played an integral role in shaping our social and cultural fabric.
— His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi
Al Mubarak noted that these establishments embody the entrepreneurial drive and sense of belonging that have driven the emirate forward. He added that these places serve as anchors within communities, creating a shared sense of connection across generations.
A Growing Legacy
A total of 75 local gems across Abu Dhabi have been honoured across five editions of the Urban Treasures initiative. Each business is recognised for its contribution to the emirate's urban and social fabric.
Nominations for the 2026 cycle were opened to the public to involve the community in identifying authentic institutions. A committee evaluated the nominations based on criteria including placemaking, urban history, community value, and physical authenticity.
