St. George's University has signed an MoU with Taaleem. The memorandum formalises cooperation between the Grenada‑based medical school and the UAE’s prominent K‑12 network, setting out joint objectives to guide students from secondary schooling to medical qualification.
New admissions pathway for UAE students
The agreement gives eligible pupils across Taaleem’s network a clear route into SGU’s Doctor of Medicine tracks. Students completing International Baccalaureate, A‑Level or US High School Diploma programmes and meeting the university’s entry criteria can apply directly to the MD programme. The pathway is designed to streamline the transition from secondary education to university‑level medical study, providing structured academic guidance along the way.
Successful candidates may start their studies at SGU’s Grenada campus or, through a long‑standing link, at Northumbria University in Newcastle, United Kingdom. SGU’s partnership with Northumbria has enabled joint programmes for years, offering students flexibility to begin their training in the Caribbean or the UK. The affiliation also promises dedicated admissions support, guaranteed interview slots and access to SGU’s Global Scholarship Programme, ensuring that promising students receive the assistance they need throughout the application process.

The launch arrives as the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi highlights the Nafis National Healthcare Programme, which aims to qualify 10,000 Emiratis within five years through academic and training schemes. The new pathway aligns with that national ambition by expanding medical education options for local students and helping to meet the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals across the UAE and the wider region.
By linking secondary education with a recognised overseas medical degree, the partnership helps address workforce shortages and supports the broader strategy of building a robust, home‑grown healthcare sector that can serve the population’s needs now and in the future.
Scholarships and clinical training opportunities
Through the Global Scholarship Programme, eligible students can receive up to USD 80,000 in financial aid. Additional assistance may be offered to qualifying applicants, easing the cost of studying abroad and making the medical career path more accessible to talented Emirati youth.
Enrolled MD students also gain clinical exposure via a network of more than 75 affiliated hospitals and health centres in the United States and the United Kingdom, providing hands‑on patient‑care experience essential for a successful medical career. These placements allow students to develop practical skills, professionalism and clinical knowledge in diverse healthcare settings.
