The Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) announced today that Abu Dhabi will host a UFC Fight Night event on September 20, 2026, at Etihad Arena. The mixed‑martial‑arts showcase marks the first UFC Fight Night on Emirati soil, underscoring the city’s growing sports portfolio. Saeed Al Mansoori, director of sports at DCT, said the bout will be staged at the 15,000-seat venue, with fans from across the region expected to attend. The event is part of Abu Dhabi’s 2026 sports calendar, which includes 12 major international competitions across boxing, basketball, and e-sports.
Event Details Confirmed
The promotion confirmed a three‑fight main card featuring international contenders, with the headline bout slated for a lightweight clash between Brazilian champion João Silva and American prospect Marcus Lee. Organisers expect the event to draw roughly 20,000 spectators, a figure that aligns with recent UFC gatherings in comparable markets like Riyadh and Doha. Ticket sales will open next month, offering tiered pricing to accommodate families and dedicated fans alike. The event will also feature a pre-fight concert at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, headlined by Emirati singer Ahmed Al Maktoum.
Venue and Expected Attendance
Abu Dhabi’s new multi‑purpose arena, Etihad Arena, will host the night‑time spectacle. The venue’s state‑of‑the‑art lighting and sound systems are designed to meet the exacting standards of global combat sports. Local hotels have already reported a surge in bookings, anticipating an influx of visitors from neighboring Gulf states. The event will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and UAE-based channel Abu Dhabi Sports, with a projected global viewership of 5 million.
Economic Boost for Abu Dhabi
City officials project that the event will generate an estimated AED 120 million in direct economic activity, ranging from hospitality to retail. Saeed Al Mansoori highlighted the opportunity for local vendors to showcase Emirati products to an international audience. The partnership also aligns with Abu Dhabi’s broader strategy to diversify its tourism offerings beyond cultural attractions. The event is expected to create 1,200 temporary jobs in hospitality and event management, with 300 of those roles reserved for local youth through the Abu Dhabi Youth Employment Initiative.
UFC’s Expansion Strategy in the Gulf
UFC President Dana White has identified the Gulf region as a key growth market, noting that the organization plans to hold more than 30 events worldwide this year. Adding Abu Dhabi to the Fight Night circuit reflects confidence in the emirate’s infrastructure and fan base. The move follows successful UFC exhibitions in nearby Saudi Arabia and Qatar, further cementing the Middle East’s role in the sport’s global calendar. UFC’s regional director for the Middle East, Sarah Al Khouri, stated that the event will be followed by a 12-month MMA training program for UAE athletes, funded by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
