The Tesla Model Y has long been the default electric SUV on UAE roads, and the 2026 facelift sharpens the formula rather than reinventing it. For buyers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi weighing their first EV, the rear-wheel-drive Long Range remains the version that makes the most sense on price, range and everyday usability.
What is new for 2026
The most visible changes are on the outside. Tesla has given the Model Y a redesigned front and rear treatment, with new light bars front and back, a lower nose and cleaner fascias. Fresh 19-inch aero wheels round out a more deliberate, Cybertruck-influenced stance that distinguishes the updated car from its predecessor at a glance.
Underneath the styling, Tesla says the bigger story is refinement. Official engineering notes point to a stiffer body, revised suspension geometry, updated damping and acoustic glass. The company quotes road noise down 22 per cent, vibration noise down 20 per cent and wind noise down 20 per cent, addressing one of the more common criticisms of earlier Model Y cars on long highway runs.
Range and charging
For the UAE market, Tesla quotes an estimated 669km of range for the Long Range RWD. That figure is a headline selling point, though real-world numbers will fall during fast summer runs between Dubai and Abu Dhabi with the air conditioning working hard. The car accelerates to 100kph in a quoted 5.6 seconds and supports up to 250kW Supercharging, with Tesla claiming up to 267km of range added in 15 minutes at a suitable charger.
Cabin and technology
Inside, the Model Y continues with a 16-inch central touchscreen and a rear screen, and there are no separate physical driver controls. The layout is clean, though daily use still demands more poking and swiping through menus than some buyers will accept. Tesla has also added a front-facing camera above the grille, which should help low-speed visibility when parking and manoeuvring in tight UAE car parks.
Safety
Safety remains one of the Model Y's strongest cards. Euro NCAP awarded the car five stars, praising occupant protection and noting strong autonomous emergency braking performance around pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles.
Pricing and the bottom line
Tesla's UAE configurator lists the rear-drive Model Y from AED 174,990. Coverage runs to four years or 80,000km for the vehicle, with eight years or 192,000km on the battery and drive unit for long-range variants. For UAE drivers who want a no-fuss EV with the country's most established charging network behind it, the updated Model Y LRWD stays the sensible default, now with a quieter cabin and a sharper look to match.
