Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, has approved a Dh1.54 billion housing-support package for 1,074 Emirati citizens, with the benefits announced ahead of Eid Al Adha (per local reports).
Breakdown of the package
According to local reports, the package combines two main strands. The first is Dh1.41 billion in housing loans extended to 929 citizens to help them build, buy or complete homes in Abu Dhabi (per local reports). The second is Dh123 million in exemptions from housing-loan repayments granted to 145 beneficiaries, including senior citizens, retired Emiratis with limited incomes and the families of deceased citizens.
Officials said the loan exemptions effectively wipe outstanding mortgage balances for households that meet the eligibility criteria set by the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority, easing financial pressure on dependents and pensioners. The structure of the package mirrors earlier batches approved this year and earlier years under the emirate,s standing housing programme.
Context within the wider strategy
The latest batch is the second housing-assistance programme of 2026 and brings the total housing aid delivered by Abu Dhabi to its citizens this year to Dh5.76 billion (per local reports). The Abu Dhabi government has framed the rolling support as part of a long-term welfare strategy intended to raise living standards and reinforce family and social stability.
Since the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority was established in 2012, the emirate has granted roughly Dh182 billion in housing support to more than 133,000 citizens, according to figures cited by Dubai Eye and other UAE outlets (per Dubai Eye). The programme is funded directly from the emirate-level budget and is overseen by the Housing Authority in coordination with the Abu Dhabi Department of Finance.
What beneficiaries can expect
The Housing Authority said eligible citizens will be contacted individually with details of their loan disbursement schedules or exemption confirmations. Loans are typically delivered in tranches tied to construction milestones, while exemptions are processed by clearing outstanding instalments against the authority,s records.
The announcement came under the directives of President Sheikh Mohamed and was timed to coincide with the run-up to Eid Al Adha, when the UAE leadership has historically used welfare disbursements to reinforce social cohesion. Officials say further batches of housing assistance are expected later in the year as part of the ongoing programme.
