As of July 2026, the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA Dubai) has opened the scheme to a range of expatriates living abroad, allowing them to obtain a short‑term visa at the point of entry.
Eligibility and Application Process
Indian, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai, Filipino, Kenyan and South African nationals – together with their family members – qualify provided they hold an ordinary passport and meet the stipulated conditions. Applicants must also present a recent colour photograph with a white background, a passport valid for at least six months, and a residence permit issued by the US, UK, an EU member state, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea or Singapore.
All applications are submitted through GDRFA Dubai’s digital channels. Users log into the smart services system, select the visa‑on‑arrival option, upload the required documents, pay the fee and receive the approved visa by email within the next 48 hours.
Visa Types, Fees and Duration
Travelers can choose a 14‑day visa, which may be extended once for an additional 14 days, or a 60‑day visa that cannot be extended. The cost is Dh172.50 for the 14‑day option and Dh422.50 for the 60‑day option.
The service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and applications are processed within 48 hours through the authority’s official digital platforms, ensuring a swift entry experience for eligible visitors.
Tourism Impact and Uptake
During the first half of 2026, GDRFA Dubai reported that 73,551 visas were issued under the scheme, indicating strong demand from expatriates living abroad. The initiative aligns with the UAE’s broader aim to enhance travel convenience, attract more visitors and support tourism growth.
