Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, led tributes on Monday following the death of his younger brother, Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, at the age of 76.
Sheikh Ahmed served as Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security.
Announcing the death on X, Sheikh Mohammed wrote: "May God have mercy on Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum."
"May God have mercy on you, my brother. You have settled with a Generous and Great Lord. You are absent from our eyes but not from our prayers and hearts.
"May God make you dwell in the vast expanses of His Paradise and inspire us and your loved ones with patience and solace… And to God we belong, and to Him we shall return."
A life in Dubai's leadership
Sheikh Ahmed was the fourth and youngest son of Dubai's late ruler Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum (1912–1990), and the youngest of Sheikh Mohammed's brothers.
Alongside his role in Dubai Police and Public Security, he held the position of Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai. In business, he was Group Chairman of A.R.M. Holding and of the Dubai Real Estate Centre. He also chaired UAE Pro League club Al Wasl FC.
Crown Prince pays tribute
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, paid tribute to his uncle.
"Sheikh Ahmed will remain in hearts, memory, and prayers, and we ask God to envelop him in His vast mercy, to make him dwell in the expanses of His gardens, and to inspire us and the people of Dubai and the Emirates with patience and solace," he wrote.
"Indeed, to God we belong, and to Him we shall return."
