Dubai parking operator Parkin will apply a 5% value-added tax (VAT) across all its services from June 1, 2026, bringing parking tariffs in line with UAE federal tax regulations (per Khaleej Times).
What is changing
The 5% VAT will apply across on-street and off-street parking, seasonal parking cards, permits and reservation services. A standard Dh4 parking fee, for example, will rise to Dh4.20 once VAT is included. Parkin said the change was coordinated with the relevant government authorities and that VAT collected will be remitted to the UAE Federal Tax Authority in accordance with applicable laws (per Gulf News).
Cash payments phased out
From the same date, Parkin will phase out cash payments at parking meters as part of Dubai's wider cashless strategy. Motorists will still be able to pay via the Parkin app, SMS, nol card and digital wallets. Salik, the emirate's toll operator, is implementing the same 5% VAT change on the same day, meaning road tolls will also become VAT-inclusive (per The National).
Why now
The UAE Federal Tax Authority confirmed in 2025 that parking and toll services would no longer benefit from prior VAT exemptions, triggering the operator-side adjustments now taking effect. Parkin said the alignment ensures it complies fully with the standard 5% VAT regime that applies to most goods and services in the country (per Gulf News).
What motorists need to know
Parkin's seasonal card holders, permit holders and reservation users will see VAT applied automatically to renewals and new purchases from June 1. Existing valid permits and cards continue at their original terms until expiry. Drivers paying per session will see the higher rate at the meter or in-app immediately on June 1 (per What's On).
Broader context
The combined Parkin and Salik changes mark one of the more visible adjustments to everyday motoring costs in Dubai in 2026, and arrive alongside earlier expansions of tariff zones across the emirate. For most drivers, the headline increase is modest at 5% on each service, but cumulative impact across daily parking, monthly permits and toll trips can add up over a year of regular commuting.
