Dubai Municipality opened a new pet shelter on July 26.
The integrated facility sits at the Birds and Pets Market in Warsan and combines veterinary, rehabilitation, grooming and adoption services.
Integrated shelter offers comprehensive animal care
Inside the shelter, stray and loose companion animals receive care that meets internationally recognised health and welfare standards. A fully equipped veterinary clinic provides routine treatment, while a modern surgical operating theatre handles more complex procedures.
Beyond medical services, the centre houses a pet grooming unit, a rehabilitation and reception area for rescued animals, and a dedicated pre‑adoption viewing space. A Customer Happiness Centre assists visitors, and interactive adoption rooms let prospective owners meet animals in a comfortable setting. A separate unit also works to reunite lost pets with their owners after verifying ownership details.
Digital platform and partnerships boost adoption
Coinciding with the shelter’s launch, Dubai Municipality rolled out a digital adoption platform that lets residents browse available animals and review health and behavioural profiles. The online tool streamlines the adoption process, helping users match with pets that suit their lifestyle and expectations.
To strengthen animal welfare, the municipality signed memoranda of understanding with Vets Fur Pets Veterinary Clinic and Phoenix Veterinary Clinic. These partnerships aim to bring international best practices to the shelter, support treatment of injured stray animals, and run public awareness campaigns on responsible pet ownership.
They also back humane population‑management programmes such as Trap‑Neuter‑Return (TNR) initiatives for stray cats and care programmes for stray dogs and cats. The collaborations include education campaigns, training programmes, workshops and knowledge‑sharing initiatives involving government bodies.
These efforts align with the Dubai Civility Committee’s goals of enhancing the emirate’s urban appearance and encouraging compassionate community behaviour.
