Dubai International Airport hosted the first Dubai Mallathon session at Terminal 3 Departures yesterday. The initiative transforms the airport into an indoor walking track, bringing a citywide wellbeing focus to a travel hub for the first time. Participants included Dubai Airports employees, members of the oneDXB community, and People of Determination.
Launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the programme aims to integrate health and wellbeing into daily life. It supports the leadership’s vision by making physical activity accessible within public spaces. The event is part of DXB’s wider efforts to reimagine airport utility and support employee health through shared experiences.
“We’re proud to host The Dubai Mallathon in its second edition here at DXB. This is an initiative we can all get behind because it encourages people to be part of something that’s more than just exercise.”
— Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer at Dubai Airports
Majed Al Joker emphasized that the initiative fits around work shifts and routines, making a big impact through small steps. He noted that airports are natural places of movement, providing a unique setting for employees and the public to stay active. This community-driven movement aligns with Dubai’s wider wellbeing ambitions.
“Hosting activities at Dubai International Airport is a significant addition to the initiative, extending its reach to airport employees, the wider airport community and travellers.”
— Demaithan Al Qamzi, General Coordinator of Dubai Mallathon
Demaithan Al Qamzi, General Coordinator of Dubai Mallathon, welcomed the airport's participation. He stated that the move reflects how the initiative has evolved beyond a traditional sports event into a community movement integrated into workplaces. This evolution supports the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, reinforcing Dubai's position as a leading city for living and working.
Further sessions are scheduled for every Friday throughout August at key locations across Terminal 3. The final session on August 28 will celebrate Emirati Women’s Day, inviting the oneDXB community to join the walk and honor the contributions of Emirati women in the aviation sector.
