The Dubai Esports and Games Festival (DEF) returned for its 2026 edition with the region's largest gaming and esports programme to date, running from 22 May to 7 June across multiple venues in the city (per The National and Dubai Media Office).
What's on the schedule
The 17-day festival is anchored by two flagship events. GameExpo Summit, the largest business-to-business gaming gathering in the region, is being held at Dubai World Trade Centre on 20 and 21 May, bringing together more than 1,500 industry professionals and over 100 speakers across keynotes, panels and seminars (per the official DEF website).
GameExpo, the consumer-facing centrepiece, takes place from 5 to 7 June at Dubai World Trade Centre Exhibition Halls 5, 6, 7 and 8, with esports tournaments, cosplay competitions, retail zones and educational experiences (per Time Out Dubai and Economy Middle East).
New attractions for 2026
This year's edition introduces several new themed zones. Neo Tokyo District is an anime-inspired immersive area combining retail, fandom and visual storytelling, while Amazon Battle Arena turns digital gameplay into live-action physical challenges. Velocity Garage brings high-intensity motorsport-inspired racing simulators to the floor (per The National).
An education summit on 4 June is dedicated to careers in the gaming industry, aimed at students and young professionals considering paths in development, esports management and content creation (per the official DEF website).
Why Dubai is doubling down on gaming
Dubai has been steadily expanding its gaming and esports footprint in recent years, with DEF acting as the anchor event for the city's wider Dubai Program for Gaming 2033 strategy. The programme aims to grow the local gaming sector, attract international developers and publishers, and create thousands of skilled jobs over the coming decade (per Campaign Middle East and PocketGamer.biz).
The 2026 edition pushes that ambition further by lengthening the festival window from a single weekend to more than two weeks, integrating B2B and consumer experiences and adding anime, cosplay and education components that broaden its appeal beyond competitive gamers (per Dubai Media Office).
Organisers say the expanded format is designed to position Dubai as a year-round destination for gaming tourism and industry events, with global players, publishers and content creators expected throughout the festival run. Tickets and full schedules are available via the official Dubai Esports and Games Festival website.
