Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) commissioned 793 new 11kV substations across Dubai during the first half of 2026. This significant expansion reinforces the emirate's electricity infrastructure to support ongoing urban expansion and economic growth. The projects, which included construction and associated works, required a total of 624,340 man-hours. DEWA completed these works in line with its quality, efficiency, and safety standards to meet rising demand from residential, commercial, and investment developments throughout the emirate.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, emphasized that the utility continues to expand its infrastructure network to keep pace with the rapid growth of residential communities, commercial centres, business districts, and investment projects. He noted that DEWA's strategy focuses on anticipating future demand rather than just reacting to it, supporting Dubai's ambition to remain among the world's leading cities in infrastructure development and quality of life. Al Tayer highlighted that DEWA recorded the world's lowest customer minutes lost (CML) for electricity, averaging just 0.82 minutes per customer annually. He added that electricity transmission and distribution losses remain among the lowest globally at 2%, reflecting the efficiency of the grid.

Rashid bin Humaidan, Executive Vice President of Distribution Power at DEWA, stated that the utility's electricity distribution network continues to grow steadily alongside the emirate's development. He revealed that DEWA currently operates 53 substations at the 33kV level. Additionally, the utility manages 47,723 medium-voltage substations operating at 11kV and 6.6kV levels. These figures illustrate the scale of the network required to serve the city's diverse power needs.
These latest additions form part of DEWA's broader efforts to strengthen electricity infrastructure, enhance service reliability, and support sustainable economic and urban development across Dubai. The authority did not specify the exact locations of the new substations.
